Every great organisation begins with a reason to exist. For Raifiki Runners Limited, that reason emerged on the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Several years ago, our founder climbed the mountain, where severe altitude sickness and swelling in the brain took hold and left her critically ill. Thankfully, a doctor from another climbing group intervened and saved her life.
What followed was a gruelling year of both physical and emotional rehabilitation. The ordeal completely stripped away our founder’s sporting confidence. Activities she had previously loved, like running and high-intensity training, began to feel like impossible tests that she could never quite pass.
She found herself focusing solely on her past fitness levels rather than appreciating the progress she was making in the present. The joy had simply vanished from her exercise routine.
REDISCOVERING THE
JOY OF MOVEMENT.
The turning point arrived through something remarkably simple: finding a sports buddy. Training alongside another person transformed her entire experience, making workouts feel less isolated and much more encouraging. Running finally included laughter again, and she found herself actually looking forward to her training sessions.
She stopped judging her progress purely by performance metrics and started appreciating every small step forward.
This shift revealed a powerful truth. Movement becomes significantly easier to embrace when people feel supported. While some routes will inevitably test your legs and your mind, having friends who understand and share the challenge lightens even the heaviest moments. Our founder built Raifiki Runners Limited upon this exact realisation.

FRIENDSHIP, NAIROBI
AND SHINING TOGETHER.
The name Raifiki comes from the Swahili word for “friend”. It perfectly reflects the deep community we aim to foster among runners and travellers, built on the belief that running together creates strong bonds that extend far beyond the sport itself.
We also deliberately capitalised the “AI” within the name to honour Nairobi, the vibrant Kenyan capital that inspired our concept and serves as the beating heart of our East African adventures.
We operate on the guiding Swahili phrase Mbele Pamoja, which translates to “shine together”. We believe people achieve far more when they move forward united. This phrase captures the support that makes a difficult workout manageable and the encouragement that helps someone complete their final mile.
Mbele Pamoja.Move forward united. Shine together.
A NEW NARRATIVE FOR
SPORT AND TRAVEL.
We created RRL with a clear goal to bring people together and help them move differently. We welcome absolutely everyone, from experienced marathoners to people taking their first steps towards a healthier lifestyle.
Our community stands firmly on on-the-ground expertise, teamwork, adventure, fun and total transparency. We draw on local knowledge to craft authentic journeys, ensure participants become true teammates, and prioritise joy to prove that laughter forms an essential part of the journey.
To bring these values to life, we design events that people will truly look forward to, talk about and remember. We call these unique happenings “Cidents”, drawing inspiration from the word “incident” to signify a memorable occurrence.
We do not intend for these to be ordinary runs.
Instead, we fill these moments with excitement, camaraderie and unexpected memories. Our range includes longer Run-cident adventures built around long-distance travel and cultural discovery, shorter Weekend Run-cident trips, outdoor Camp-cidents, fitness-focused Bootcamp-cidents, and one-day On the Road-cidents.
While the format changes from weekend camping escapes to local trails, the spirit remains the same: move, explore, connect and have fun.
Furthermore, as a women-founded community, we actively create resources and opportunities to help women excel in sport and travel. We celebrate their achievements and build an environment where more women can see themselves as bold adventurers and leaders.
Ultimately, our founder and the RRL team want to change the running narrative. We want people to experience the lighter side of movement.
The absolute best way to cheer yourself up is to cheer somebody else up.That is the true heart of Raifiki Runners Limited.
